He looks forward to dancing alongside the Kings of Tampa on a bigger stage for more adoring crowds, now with a few more years and a lot more perspective under his belt.
With Dallas in Macau starting a show with The Kid, Mike doesn't have the same need to be a mentor. Now, he can dance for pure enjoyment, reflected in the story of Magic Mike 2. By continuing with the role into his thirties, Tatum gets to experience what it would have been like if he had stayed in the world of male stripping rather than left to become an actor. He conveys through Mike that the longing to be part of a community doesn't subside just because the lifestyle is something a person wants to leave.
Magic Mike XXL is a celebration of the bonds of brotherhood developed through competition and adversity as much as it is a fun road trip movie. Though it has some more amusing dance sequences than in the first film, and takes itself less seriously, the meaning behind Magic Mike is still very much present. Mike again finds himself as a mentor of sorts to a new dance crew, assembled from all over the world and composed of real dancers from the Magic Mike Live show, though much of the film is dedicated to him finally finding romance. He continuously refuses to be part of the show, insisting that the focus should be on the next generation of dancers in Magic Mike 3's dance sequences, but of course, Mike gets his final bow.
By keeping Mike Lane's age parallel to Channing Tatum's, Tatum is given more creative freedom with his storyline while maintaining its believability.
